OUTSTANDING EX
2005
The Thomas Jefferson High School Ex-Student Association honors Manuel (Manny) Aguirre from the class of 1955 as the 2005 “Outstanding Ex Student”. As a student at Jefferson High School, Manny lettered in baseball.
He received his Bachelors of Arts Degree at Texas Western College (UTEP) in 1961, Master’ Degree in Counseling and Guidance at University of Texas at El Paso in 1968, and Master’ Degree in Educational Administrator at University of Texas at El Paso in 1973. Manny dedicated his professional career to the El Paso Independent School District in many capacities. He was a PE coach at Aoy, Head-Coach/Teacher at Henderson Middle School, and at Austin High School he implemented the varsity swimming program for EPISD. He went on to become Assistant Principal at El Paso High School were he implemented the KINA (Kids in Need of Attention) Program for students at risk of not graduating, but who were able to do so through KINA.
As Principal of Magoffin Middle School he created the Lobo Posse, a gang intervention program and the Modeling Program designed to teach female students proper etiquette and encourage them to forego traditional gang attire. Manny is the first and only Jefferson graduate to return to the alma mater as a principal. He participated in the planning and building stages of the Silva Magnet High School for Health
Care Professionals.
Manny recently retired from the County Attorney’s Office as the Chief Investigator of the Criminal Investigations Unit assisting other law enforcement agencies as a forensic handwriting analyst. He is married to the former Evangelina (Vangie) Romero from the class of 1959. Their family includes four sons, two granddaughters, and one grandson.
